Principle: Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) is a well-established technique used to measure the particle size and size distribution of molecules or particles (typically in the sub-micron range) dispersed or dissolved in a liquid. The Brownian motion of these particles or molecules causes rapid fluctuations in the intensity of the scattered light they emit. By analyzing these short-term intensity fluctuations, the speed of Brownian motion can be determined, and subsequently, particle size information is derived using the Stokes-Einstein equation.

The Zetasizer Lab can measure both the particle size and zeta potential of nanoparticles. There are four sample cells: DTS0012 (aqueous phase, particle size range 1-1000 nm), PCS1115 (organic phase, particle size range 1-1000 nm), ZSU1002 (aqueous phase, particle size range above 1000 nm) and DTS1070 (zeta potential).
